Evaluating Installed Cost Of Corrosion Resistant Piping

This course provides information of interest to engineers and specifiers who select materials for corrosion–resistant piping systems.

Analyzes three typical piping systems in six different pipe sizes and a variety of materials —metallic, non–metallic, composite and lined.

Summarizes the comparative costs. This course illustrates the need to consider the large number of factors which influence studies of installed cost. Hence it will enable the reader to make realistic use of the information presented here.

Itemizes a nine–step approach to selection of piping materials.

Supports its conclusions with complete cost calculations presented in both digital and graphic form.

Highlights and seeks to correct the inconsistencies which have limited the usefulness of earlier studies on this topic, in particular :

The pitfalls of inappropriate examples and assumptions

The bias introduced by estimating tables used in determining labor costs

The critical effect of labor costs on estimates of installed cost

The difference between estimated and actual installed costs of corrosion resistant piping systems

The limitations of even the best cost estimates as decision–making tools in piping material selection.
