Basic
Processing Knowledge |
Basic Processing Knowledge is the first course in a series of three
designed for the use of supervisors, foremen, operators, and others who
work, or are associated, with crude oil refining, petrochemicals, or
natural gas compressor stations or plants. |
Each course is independent, yet the
information in each would be of value to those listed above or those just
beginning their careers in the industry. |
This first course is intended to provide a background of mathematics,
equations, important terms, problems, properties of typical liquids and
gases, chemical properties of hydrocarbons, and some formulae. |
Although the course follows a mathematical approach, most of the
mathematics are elemental. |
A person who has taken high school
algebra can solve the most complicated concepts presented. |
This is primarily a course on solving
problems in refining, plant operations, and natural gas compressors
accompanied by the necessary theory. |
It contains sample problems with
detailed solutions and exercises to be worked by the trainees. |
Plant operations in the petroleum industry deal with temperature, heat,
pressure, flow rate, compressibility, hydraulics, distillation, vacuum,
combustion, energy, chemistry, physics, and other related topics. |
An understanding of the information
presented should be most useful in plant operations. |
Too much stress cannot be placed on the
necessity for frequent and thorough review. |
Often, points that have been missed in
the original study of the text will stand out clearly upon attending the
course. |
